Register Today for the Mackinac Island Fort2Fort VIRTUAL Challenge!

Join us  this October either on the Island or in your home town for the Virtual Fort 2 Fort Challenge, celebrating historic Mackinac Island ‘s Fort Holmes and Fort Mackinac!  We may not be able to gather as a group, but you can still show your support of Mackinac Historic Parks, now in its 125th year, by registering today.  .You can run or walk five miles wherever you choose, though we encourage you to still consider coming to the Island to run the challenging race course, we’ll have it marked for you.

Location & Start Times


5 Mile Run and Walk will both start at 9:00 am.  Please plan to be on the 7:30 ferry to allow time to get to the Scout Barracks for Packet Pickup.  Fort doors will be open and rest rooms available.


Race will start inside Fort Mackinac with a musket salute by Fort Soldiers, heading through the “North Sally Port” gates to the race course.  Race will finish in front of the Scout Barracks.

Cancellation Policy – We do not offer registration refunds for any event, though we will allow transfers at a $10 fee.  We encourage you to purchase the Registration Protection Plan to protect you from unexpected (covered) circumstances prohibiting you from coming to the race.

Race Check-in


Pick up your race bib and shirt Saturday, from 7:30 – 9:00 a.m. at the Scout Barracks behind Fort Mackinac (Garrison and Huron).  From the ferry lines, take Fort Road up the hill or enter front doors of Fort (doors will be open to pass through Fort).

We recommend you catch a ferry from Mackinaw City or St. Ignace no later than 7:30 AM on race day.

Race Day Registration

Individuals may register on race day from 7:30 – 9:00 AM at the Scout Barracks behind Fort Mackinac (Huron and Garrison).

Gear Check

You can leave gear at the Scout Barracks.  We ask that you not store any valuables (i.e. wallets, purses, computers, iPods, etc.).   We are not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged items.  Lockers are available at any of the ferry line docks.

Course Maps


Race begins with musket salute inside Fort Mackinac heading out the “North Sally Port” gate to Huron Road.  Participants will run or walk to Arch Rock, then follow Leslie Trail to North Bicycle Trail arriving at Garrison Road behind the Scout Barracks.  They will follow Garrison past cemeteries to Fort Holmes Road, proceeding up the hill to circle Fort Holmes where the first runners will be greeted by “soldiers” in Historic garb and a musket salute.  From Fort Holmes, the course will travel back down the hill to Garrison Road, then follow Custer Road to turn left on Huron.  The last portion will go past Governor’s Cottage to finish behind Fort Mackinac on the Parade Grounds.

Overall and Masters male and female, and top three (3) finishers in each division.

There will be no official award ceremony—all awards will be available for pickup shortly after results are posted.

Additional Info


Race will be scored with the ChronoTrack B-Tag located on your bib, you must wear your bib in full view to be scored.  Results will be posted on race day – please check posted results soon after your finish so we can make corrections before awards are given out.

All race participants will enter the Fort free of charge using their race bib as entry.  Family members will receive a discount on entrance tickets to Fort.  The Tea Room inside the Fort will be open before and during the race for hot & cold beverages and pastries.  Lunch is served from 11:00—3:00 in the Tea Room with a spectacular view of the Island under the Yellow Umbrellas!
