Event Details

Change in Race Start and Distance!

Due to current Covid 19 social distancing requirements, for 2021 we are not able to run the traditional course through downtown Mackinac Island as planned.  Instead, we will begin the race in front of Mission Point’s Straits Lodge heading to Truscott, then travel the traditional course to finish at the school (approximately 5.5 miles).  The start line will feature “rolling start”, open from 8 am – 9:30 am, allowing participants the opportunity to be well distanced and enjoy a safe race.   Current plans are to mail race bibs and distribute shirts at the finish of the race, though specific race details will be provided closer to the event.

For those not comfortable with an in-person race, we are also offering a Virtual Race option so you can run or walk wherever and whenever you choose.

We appreciate your understanding as we work through these unique and challenging times.  We are also grateful to the Mackinac Island City Council, Tourism Board, Island businesses and Mission Point Resort for working with us to find a way to safely hold the Lilac Festival Run and Walk in 2021.

 

Join us on Saturday, June 5, 2021, to kick off the 71st Mackinac Island Lilac Festival with a great morning race. Over 1,100 participants joined us in 2019 to enjoy the early season beauty on the Island. The course will provide you with  the tree-covered paved roads through the center of the Island, and tremendous lake views with the Mackinac Bridge on the horizon. This is certainly a race you don’t want to miss!

2021 Mackinac Island Trio Series!

Register for all three races and you will receive a special Mackinac Island Trio Series medal. This will be a separate medal from the other finisher’s medals you will receive at the completion of all three races, and will only be awarded following the Great Turtle Half Marathon.  (Note, if you are unable to join us for the “in person” Lilac Festival race, you will still be eligible for the Trio medal if you complete the Virtual Lilac Race and record your time – this option is available for the 2021 Lilac Festival Race only).

Location & Start Times

Location
The Lilac Festival Run & Walk will start in front of Straits Lodge at Mission Point Resort and finish in the Mackinac Island School yard.

Note: The course distance for 2021 will be approximately 5.5 Miles.

Starting Times

The race start will be a rolling start from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. allowing each participant to begin their race as soon as they arrive at the Mission Point start line for a safe and “socially distanced” event.  If you are staying on the Island Friday night, we ask that you please take advantage of the early start times to allow less congestion for those coming in race morning on ferry lines.

The Lil’ Lilac Kids Race will start at approximately 11:15 at the school.

Face coverings/masks must be worn both pre and post race by all participants, spectators and volunteers.

Entry Fees:
The Mackinac Island State Park Commission has assessed an $8.00 Park Usage Fee per person, and is included in your registration fee below.

April 1 – May 22, 2021:

  • Lil’ Lilac Kids Race: $15.00

Cancellation Policy – We do not offer registration refunds for any event, though we will allow transfers or deferrals at a $10 fee.  

Race Check-in

Race Check-In
We are working on the specific plans and, when finalized, they will be sent to all registrants prior to the race.  Tentative plans are to mail bibs so participants can come to the start line ready to begin their run or walk. and have shirt pick up after the race at the school.  There may be a pickup on Friday night as well, but that is to be determined.

There will be no on-site Race Day Registration so please plan to register early.

Gear Check
We do not have any official gear-check, however a dray will be at Mission Point near the start location to collect and transport gear to the finish area at the school.  For those who start early, the dray may not arrive before you finish your race so we suggest you use one of the lockers at the ferry lines or leave your gear with someone who can transport it for you.  Also, we will not be monitoring gear so we ask that you do not store any valuables (i.e. wallets, keys. purses, computers, iPods, etc.). We are not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged items. Again, lockers are available at both of the ferry line docks.

Course Maps

Course
The race course begins in front of Straits Lodge at Mission Point Resort turning up the hill to Huron Road to Garrison Road where your right turn will take you through historic landmarks and over rolling hills through the wooded-center of the Island. The last leg of the race is on the shore road, offering the unique opportunity to take in the beautiful Straits of Mackinac. The entire run is on paved roads.

  • Medals for all finishers in the 10K race.

Run & Walk: Overall and Masters male and female, and top three (3) finishers in each division

Awards will be available for pickup at the school after 11:00 am. Please arrange to have someone pick-up your award if you will not be on the Island.

Fruit, snacks and water will be available after the race for all participants.

Restrooms and locker rooms may be open at the school for you to change clothes and/or take shower (to be determined). We will update as soon as finalized.
